Air Fryer Mushroom “Bacon”
Mushroom bacon adds smoky, savory crunch to all kinds of dishes. Try it on salads, sandwiches, avocado toast, baked potatoes, breakfast bowls, scrambled eggs or simply enjoy it as a snack.
Ingredients
- 1 pound king trumpet mushrooms, cleaned and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch slices
- 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, optional
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
Instructions
- Toss mushrooms, oil, soy sauce, maple syrup, pepper, smoked paprika, onions powder and garlic powder together in a large bowl until coated. Allow trumpet mushrooms to marinate for 30 minutes.
- Coat air-fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray and preheat to 375°F. Working in batches, place mushrooms in a single layer in prepared air-fryer basket. Cook, shaking the air-fryer basket halfway through, until mushrooms are crisp and golden-brown, about 9-13 minutes.
Notes
For a bolder smoky flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon of liquid smoke to the marinade. Portabella mushrooms also work well in this recipe: Use 1 pound portabella caps (cleaned, stemmed, gills removed), cut into 1/2-inch slices, and marinate for 15 minutes before following the remainder of instructions.
